Moldova has sent official notes of protest to Ukraine regarding an incident in which Ukrainian border guards pursued a man on Moldovan territory.
This was announced on October 19 by Lilian Carp, chairman of the Moldovan parliamentary commission for defense, security, and public order.
"Nothing can justify such behavior by border guards. Regardless of the fact that the Ukrainian citizen was attempting to cross the border illegally, the actions of the Ukrainian border guards do not align with ethical standards and go beyond what is acceptable," he stated during a broadcast on the television channel Moldova 1.
The parliamentarian explained that the border incident and the unacceptable actions of Ukrainian security forces have already become the subject of discussions between Chisinau and Kyiv through official diplomatic channels.
According to Carp, the Ukrainian citizen who was being pursued will most likely be granted political asylum in Moldova, as international law guarantees protection to individuals fleeing military conflict.
