The European Commission has rejected a U.S. proposal to resume gas purchases from Russia as part of a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho stated at a briefing in Brussels.
"Our position remains unchanged. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has previously stated quite clearly that not a single restrictive measure against Russia will be lifted until the war has completely ended," she said.
Pinho noted that the EU summit held on October 15–16 had "expressed disappointment" regarding the U.S. decision to ease restrictions against Moscow and begin purchasing Russian diesel.
