Iran downs an expensive U.S. drone over a strategic island in the Strait of Hormuz

On November 4, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported the downing of a fifteenth U.S. MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island, using an advanced system integrated into the country’s air defense network.

According to an IRGC statement, the adversary had intensified reconnaissance and intelligence activities over the past few nights to identify Iranian defense systems, and had carried out "conspiratorial actions" in the Strait of Hormuz aimed at destabilizing the region and driving down global oil prices.

However, he noted that these actions "ended in a shameful failure for the enemy" thanks to "multiple successful interceptions."
