The French banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has fallen victim to a cyberattack, resulting in the theft of over $133 million. This was reported on November 4 by the local publication Le Télégramme, citing a statement from the bank and data from independent researchers.
"Hackers siphoned off an amount equivalent to $133 million from the bank, after which the funds were transferred to numerous accounts opened on cryptocurrency exchanges," wrote journalist Grégory Raymond, who covers the sector, on the social media platform X.
Arkéa Bank has confirmed that an attack took place, "resulting in fraudulent transactions." While offering no comment on reports regarding the amount stolen, the bank gave assurances that "the incident entails no financial consequences for its clients." As noted by Le Télégramme, Arkéa’s management has notified the Bank of France about the situation.
