Explosions have occurred on the Iranian island of Qeshm, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, local media report.
A channel linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps states that the impacts took place on the island and that the attack originated from the east.
Almost simultaneously, explosions were reported in the city of Jask, in Hormozgan province, where the strait opens into the Gulf of Oman.
Hours earlier, the Iranian Navy reported that a tanker, which was navigating the strait in an irregular manner, caught fire and became immobilized after striking a naval mine.
The Navy maintains that the vessel was traversing "a prohibited and dangerous zone," ignoring standard warnings, and had its navigation and identification systems switched off.
