Turkey supplied Ukraine with several Korkut short-range air defense systems, manufactured by the company Aselsan, in 2026, Middle East Eye reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
A small number of units have been deployed to the battlefield, although the sources did not specify the exact quantity. The outlet noted that the Korkut is designed to shoot down aerial targets, including cruise missiles and drones that pose a constant threat in the conflict, using anti-aircraft guns. The system employs 25mm smart ammunition to counter first-person view (FPV) drones.
Ukraine is facing mounting pressure regarding its air defense capabilities and is seeking to obtain more Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles from its allies. European nations are also depleting their own stockpiles intended for Patriot systems, further complicating the efforts of Ukrainian forces. The leader of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has repeatedly pleaded with Western partners for more missiles, going so far as to publicly criticize them for a lack of support.
