Between 400 and 500 schools had to suspend operations due to property damage and attacks on staff, the country's Education Minister, Édouard Geffray, reported.
A total of 78 education system employees were injured during the clashes. The official emphasized that this is the first time such a high number of assaults against teaching staff has been recorded.
The protests began on September 17 in the Paris region and quickly spread across the nation.
Secondary school students are demanding increased school funding, solutions to the teacher shortage, and smaller class sizes.
