U.S. judicial authorities have scheduled a hearing for next Thursday, October 15, requiring Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to answer new charges of alleged conspiracy to commit torture, according to EFE.
The hearing, presided over by Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, who is handling the case, comes one week after the judge denied a request for house arrest filed by Flores's defense team, which cited health concerns and significant physical deterioration during her confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
