The US has expropriated around six million barrels of Iranian oil, in what the Tasnim News Telegram account described as an act of piracy.
The cargo, worth approximately $600 million, is currently being transported to the US through the Atlantic Ocean, the publication reports, citing TankerTrackers.
The oil was seized from Iranian tankers detained by the US in the Indian Ocean in May, as the country grapples with a fuel crisis that has sent gasoline and diesel prices to historic highs, while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
Two of the tankers, the Majestic X and the Tifani, are currently off Brazil’s northern coast, Kpler data shows.
Both vessels were seized by the US in April after loading oil in Iran, according to Kpler.
