Russia and China vetoed a proposal in the UN Security Council to extend the mandate of the 1737 Committee, a panel of experts on sanctions against Iran, by one year.
The document was drafted by the United States.
Of the 15 members of the Security Council, 11 countries voted in favor of the draft resolution, while Somalia and Pakistan abstained.
