British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, alongside the “unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on UK soil, including attacks on the British Jewish community”.
The Foreign Office said in a statement to Sky News that Miliband told Araghchi that “Iran should choose de-escalation and diplomacy instead of prolonging the war”.
Miliband also “underlined the importance of restoring freedom of navigation and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the impact continued disruption has on global security and economic stability”, according to the Sky News report.
