The European Union is seeking Israel's support to boost its air defense and state-of-the-art space technology, the newspaper Politico reported on Tuesday.
As part of this outreach, the director of the Israel Space Agency, Shimrit Maman, traveled to Brussels this week to meet with Ekaterina Zaharieva, the European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, to discuss cooperation in key sectors such as artificial intelligence and robotics."It is very difficult to do things on one's own," Maman stated. The militarization of space "is already happening; we just don't realize to what extent," she added. She also noted that Israel is seeing growing interest from its allies in dual-use technologies—those with both civilian and defense applications.
"One of the areas we are working on is early warning systems," Maman explained. "We saw this very clearly, for example, in the last round [of missile attacks] we had with Iran," he emphasized.
