Călin Georgescu, who ran in Romania's recent presidential election and won the first round, after which the results were annulled by the Romanian Constitutional Court due to suspected electoral manipulation via social media, has been arrested.
He is suspected of forming a fraudulent criminal group. A press release from the public prosecutor's office further states:
"The public prosecutor's office has executed five search warrants for residences in the greater Bucharest area as well as in the towns of Mogoșoaia, Ciolpani, and Buftea. The searches are linked to the formation of a criminal organization and, specifically, to aggravated fraud."
