Canadian MP Sean Casey was removed from his role supporting the country's Minister of Veterans Affairs by Prime Minister Mark Carney after voting in favor of a bill seeking to cut off Canadian arms shipments to Israel, local media reported on Friday.
The initiative was spearheaded by Canada's New Democratic Party, an opposition group. The proposal aims to prevent Canadian-made military equipment from being sold to another country and ending up in Tel Aviv.
Casey recounted that in March, his party's whip warned him that if he voted in favor, he would be stripped of his position. Casey was the only officeholder among the 15 Liberals who supported the bill. On Thursday, Carney’s office informed him of his removal. On Friday, the Canadian government announced that Casey would be replaced by Quebec MP Sophie Chatel.
