The master of a tanker crossing the Strait of Hormuz reported an explosion at the vessel’s port-side waterline, 16 nautical miles (30 miles) east of Oman’s Khasab, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency has said.
Noting it was a late report, the UKMTO said the incident occurred at 1am local time on Friday (22:00 GMT on Thursday).
The tanker remains under its own power and is continuing its voyage, UKMTO said, adding that all crew are safe and accounted for.
Meanwhile, a seafarer was killed in an explosion believed to have been caused by a missile attack on an oil products tanker in the Gulf, the ship’s manager has reported.
The MT Velos was sailing without cargo towards Bahrain when it was hit on Thursday, Greek management firm Velos Tankers said in a statement on Friday.
