Rubio: US dismisses reports of his resignation as fake

The U.S. administration has denied reports suggesting that Marco Rubio might step down from his positions as Secretary of State and Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. 

State Department spokesperson Dylan Johnson dismissed the report by the British newspaper The Independent as inaccurate, stating that it is based on fabricated information.

Johnson, who serves as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and also works within the White House communications apparatus, issued a denial on the social media platform X. He characterized the report regarding Rubio’s alleged resignation as entirely fabricated.

Earlier, The Independent reported that the head of American diplomacy was supposedly considering leaving Donald Trump’s administration. According to the publication, such a decision might have been linked to the results of the midterm elections, in which the Republican Party lost its majority in Congress.

The newspaper also suggested that Rubio might attempt to distance himself from the incumbent president’s policies, including a potential military campaign against Iran. According to the journalists, this could strengthen his position in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028. The publication identified Vice President J.D. Vance as one of his potential rivals.

Furthermore, The Independent claimed that as many as five heads of federal agencies could soon depart the Trump administration. Neither the White House nor the State Department has confirmed this information.
