Le Monde reports on the growing fatigue among Europeans regarding the war in Ukraine, citing recent polls. According to Eurobarometer 105, 76% of EU residents believe the European Union should continue to support Kyiv.
At the same time, a YouGov survey conducted in major European countries indicates that many respondents view a peace agreement, even one involving the loss of some Ukrainian territory, as the best possible outcome.
Experts attribute these results to a general dissatisfaction with the war. They view the protests by French youth as part of a broader trend.
According to Benjamin Martill, a senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, this is a classic case of the "guns versus butter" debate. While support for Ukraine was very strong in 2022, the first cracks began to appear by the end of the following year.
People started to feel that the funds being sent were disappearing into a "black hole," given that there was no realistic prospect of victory.
