Western media reports that the US administration did not invite several key allies, including the United Kingdom, France, and the Baltic states, to a planned meeting of NATO members in Poland intended to discuss the alliance's future.
This decision is causing confusion among states that play a pivotal role in the military bloc and comes amidst repeated criticism of NATO from Washington, ranging from members' refusal to support a war against Iran to the failure of some countries to meet the requirement of allocating 5% of their GDP to defense.
So far, it is known that Pentagon policy official Elbridge Colby, the driving force behind the initiative—held two meetings with an "exclusive group" of invitees: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands, under the so-called Bergen Group format.
Media reports indicate that the US has recently been considering expanding the group to include Denmark, following an agreement reached between the two countries to increase the US military presence in Greenland.
