Several U.S. embassies in the Middle East issued a security alert for their citizens on Sunday, citing a potential escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi movement in Yemen.
U.S. diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates, among others, warned that Americans currently in the region "should exercise heightened vigilance due to the complex security environment" and remain alert to the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.
The embassies noted that there is a risk that "hostilities could escalate rapidly," further indicating that "Iran and Iran-aligned groups could target other U.S. interests abroad, or locations associated with the U.S. and American citizens globally, including U.S. businesses and institutions."
