UK warns against non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia

The UK has expanded its travel warning for Saudi Arabia, advising against all but essential travel to Jeddah and Dammam, as well as all airports across the kingdom except the Medina international airport.

In guidance updated on Sunday, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) urged UK nationals to avoid King Khalid International airport in Riyadh until it is secure following the “serious incident” on October 10.

The FCDO also advised UK nationals wishing to leave Saudi Arabia to consider travelling by land to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE or Jordan before flying onward.

The warning comes amid continued Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia since July 13.

The FCDO warned of heightened threats to airports, military bases, ports and energy infrastructure across the kingdom, saying further attacks on airports are “very likely”.
