The State Department has announced the evacuation of some personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia; the decision does not apply to U.S. missions in other countries in the region.
"The State Department has ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members from Saudi Arabia only," wrote U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott on the social media platform X.
He described as inaccurate media reports that the State Department is allegedly preparing to issue a similar order regarding other U.S. embassies in Persian Gulf countries.
