The first tanker carrying 40,000 tons of Russian diesel fuel is set to depart for the United States on October 22, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced.
"And further shipments will follow. We will meet U.S. demand for diesel to the extent of our capabilities," he said.
By the end of the year, countries other than the U.S. may also begin receiving Russian diesel.
Should the Europeans wish, Russia could supply gas via the remaining intact line of the Nord Stream pipelines, and the other lines could potentially be repaired.
Supplies of diesel fuel to countries other than the U.S. will depend on the capacity of Russian oil refineries.
