Microsoft is offering approximately 60,000 employees the chance to resign voluntarily, according to a report by Business Insider on October 26.
Microsoft is offering about 60,000 employees the option to resign voluntarily in exchange for a severance package," the publication states.
This initiative is noted as yet another attempt by Microsoft to reduce its headcount while avoiding further involuntary layoffs. Following significant investments in infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) development and a round of staff cuts earlier this year, Microsoft is offering its remaining employees the option to leave, in order to see whether voluntary departures can help lower costs.
On October 16, the newspaper Bild reported that the automaker BMW is prepared to pay up to €600,000 to employees who leave the company. It was noted that the company plans to cut up to 8,000 jobs across various countries, with the majority of these reductions taking place in Germany.
