Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed for a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran before Tuesday's election, but Trump didn't give the green light, CNN reports, citing US officials and an Israeli security source.
According to the Israeli source, one reason was a warning from IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to US Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine that a new war would harm the vote and lead to its postponement.
US forces in the region are ready to launch new, potentially major operations against Iran within 96 hours of an order from Trump. "The plans are ready, waiting for Trump's approval, could be after the midterms," the Israeli source said.
Israel's Channel 12 separately reported that Netanyahu ordered some form of military action before the election, which led to an unprecedented clash with Zamir.
On Sunday, Trump stated that he faces a decision regarding the conflict with Iran: either "put an end" to the Islamic Republic or reach a deal.
