U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that his country seeks to "suffocate" Iran.
"Right now, we are carrying out Operation Economic Pariah, the largest economic isolation operation in world history. We are going to suffocate the regime," he asserted in an interview with Fox News.
He also asserted that the maritime blockade Washington imposed on the Islamic Republic is preventing the export of Iranian oil, meaning that "probably" only about 30 million barrels of crude remain at sea that China, Tehran's main trading partner, has not yet purchased.
According to the senior official, this situation will soon come to an end, and the conflict surrounding Beijing's purchases will cease to be a problem for the U.S., as the Asian giant will run out of physically available products to buy. "The blockade is working, it is working like nothing we have ever seen before," he emphasized.
