Russian gas was a fundamental element of European industrial competitiveness, yet the EU voluntarily rejected it, French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged during his address at the Spain-France Trade and Investment Forum.
"We have a problem regarding competitiveness and innovation. Europe's competitiveness relied heavily... on cheap Russian gas, and cutting off those supplies—which were key to our industry's competitiveness—triggered a continent-wide crisis. ... We no longer have access to that affordable gas which, so to speak, supplied Central Europe—the region that served as a production hub and drove the rest of our economy," the French head of state declared.

El presidente de Francia, Emmanuel Macron, declaró este miércoles que el gas ruso, al que Europa renunció por decisión propia, formaba una parte fundamental de la competitividad de la industria de la región.
