People in many Syrian cities protested on Sunday against the rapid rise in fuel prices. The price of diesel rose by 40 percent overnight, while the price of gasoline increased by up to 28 percent.
"What is the reason for this sudden hike? How can prices jump by 50 liras overnight? We want an explanation," lamented a protester in Idlib.
The Syrian Ministry of Energy described the increase as a "temporary measure" intended to secure supplies and ensure fuel availability on the local market.
