NATO has called on Russia to stop its "irresponsible nuclear rhetoric."

 Russia has warned NATO that it is prepared to use nuclear weapons should the alliance attempt to blockade Kaliningrad, reports Reuters, which has seen the text of a document sent by Moscow to Brussels.

Russia would be prepared to deploy its entire available arsenal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory if NATO countries were to make any attempt to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country , the document states.

 NATO’s written response (also reviewed by Reuters) notes that the alliance is a defensive one, committed to countering threats to its members' security from all directions, and that "no NATO exercise or action poses a threat to the territory of the Russian Federation."

NATO also called on Moscow to refrain from "increasingly reckless behavior towards allies, to stop irresponsible nuclear rhetoric," and to end the war in Ukraine.

• Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised European politicians on Wednesday to study Russia's doctrinal documents before taking any aggressive action against Kaliningrad.

 In this regard, the spokesperson addressed reports that Russian embassies in Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Ireland had recently warned NATO of Moscow's potential response to any attempt to target Kaliningrad. They indicated that Russia is prepared to use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, should European forces attempt to blockade the enclave.

 "We have repeatedly heard statements from Poland and other European countries, quite unhinged ones, that also addressed the issue of Kaliningrad. That is why it is perfectly natural for our diplomats to try to remind the hotheads in Europe of our doctrinal documents on the matter," Peskov told reporters.
