Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Tuesday on Donald Trump's claim that Russia and Ukraine had agreed not to launch attacks against energy targets.
Peskov noted that Moscow had seen Trump's proposal and welcomed the initiative. However, he added that the previous night, Ukrainian forces attempted to attack an energy facility in a Russian province, demonstrating that no such agreement exists.
"Yes, we saw President Trump's announcement regarding the energy ceasefire. Overall, we consider it a very good idea, a good initiative. We are in contact with the Americans. We always support peaceful solutions," he stated.
At the same time, he explained that ensuring the safe operation of refineries and increasing production volumes of petroleum products would not solve the global problems, since "the main issue is the export of petroleum products to global markets."
In this regard, Peskov noted that resolving the issue of unhindered access for petroleum products to world markets requires "guaranteeing the safety of merchant shipping and the navigation of oil tankers." "The Kyiv regime is not yet willing to guarantee such security. And they know that it is not only our tankers that are suffering, but also those of other countries," he stated, adding that the second solution is to lift the sanctions.
