Iran will not back down from 60 percent enrichment, says parliament committee chairman

 Iran will not back down from enriching uranium to 60 percent, Mohammad Saleh Jokar, chairman of parliament’s Committee on Internal Affairs and Councils, has said.

The semi-official Fars News Agency quoted Jokar as saying that uranium enrichment at different levels is a “legitimate right of the Iranian people” and part of the country’s fundamental rights.

He stated that Iran was not seeking nuclear weapons but should continue to benefit from nuclear science, pointing to its use in industry, medicine, agriculture, and fuel production.

“The claim that we do not need 60 percent enrichment is exactly what the enemies want,” Jokar said, adding that Iran must defend what he described as the Iranian people’s right to enrichment.
