Danish Ambassador Rolf Holmboe was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where a protest was lodged regarding the actions of a Danish military helicopter near the corvette Soobrazitelny (Сообразительный).
According to the Ministry, on September 14, the helicopter approached the ship in neutral waters of the Baltic Sea and failed to respond to calls made via the international channel.
The corvette’s crew fired two red signal flares, after which the helicopter left the area.
Russia considers the maneuvers a violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Foreign Ministry warned that a recurrence of such actions against the backdrop of tensions in the Baltic region could lead to escalation.
