"China's legitimate rights and interests in Venezuela must be protected," stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun when asked about U.S. plans regarding oil fields previously operated by Chinese companies.
Cooperation between Beijing and Caracas is protected by international law and the UN Charter, he added.
His remarks come days after Donald Trump announced that Washington had secured majority control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves.
