A series of explosions at the Bolívar military regiment in the La Paz department also left 59 people injured, seven missing, and caused extensive damage, police confirmed.
"From this point on, investigative activities will be carried out to determine exactly what happened here," Bolivian Police Deputy Commander Colonel Roger Roca told the media, noting that the investigation would begin once the entire site had been cleared.
The explosions, which appear to have been accidental, knocked out power across the entire municipality of Viacha; consequently, ambulances had to be dispatched from El Alto to handle the large number of injured people, and the fire department was deployed to contain the resulting flames.
